The Growth and Future of E-learning
Jun 23rd
Buzzwords in education have been in existence since the on-set of formal education as we know it today. Many of these terms come and go based on their usage and their context but some terminologies have withstood the test of time. Let us take a look at some of the common terms along with the chronology of how they evolved.
Although often used interchangeably, there is distinction between distance education and distance learning. Distance education takes place using print-based and electronic learning resources. Learners are connected to resources, instructors, and to other learners, and they tend to be separated by time and/or geographic/physical distance. Distance learning on the other hand is the actual system and the process, which connects a group of learners with the distributed learning resources. Learning takes place in various different forms but in general learners, instructors, and the necessary resources are separated by time and space.
Talent Management – Enhancing Performance With Online Learning or E-learning Tools
Jun 18th
Talent Management has started to leverage greatly on learning and knowledge management approaches to enhance the performance of talents. Many learning platforms are incorporating online learning or e-learning as delivery channels. This has greatly impacted how knowledge information is managed as well.
Learning Management System or LMS is software for delivering, tracking and managing training. A complete LMS or learning management system tracks both online learning and physical training attended by the learner. More dynamic systems are developed with the learner’s KPIs or Key Performance Indicators incorporated within. Linking directly to the learner’s KPIs would give the evaluator better gauge of the learner’s ability to apply what was learnt, thereby indicating the Learning ROI or Learning Return On Investment.
What is the Best/cost Effective E-learning Technology?
Jun 16th
E-learning technology has been evolving for quite some time now; it certainly has evolved through its slow but steady start. It is now growing in use and acceptance. The adaptation of e-learning in normal business training operations is increasing and more companies are experiencing the advantages of the technology.
An ideal e-learning technology should start with these three basic components – Learning Management System (LMS), Learning Content Management System (LCMS) and Talent Management System (TMS). LMS technology is designed to manage the learners: from determining what one needs to learn to perform in a particular position or task, to what the employee needs to learn next to be more competent. On the other hand, LCMS technology manages the learning content, which works on how to create content to be delivered on different platforms. Lastly, the TMS technology manages the workforce: from finding the right candidates to how much an employee should be compensated. The interplay of these technologies is the key to a working and efficient e-learning system.
The best e-learning technology is relative and varies in case-to-case basis. What works for company A may not work for company B, or vice versa. It is dependent on what goals have been established upon the implementation of the e-learning technology. It is equally important to consider the capability of a company and how much budget they can allocate in adopting a new kind of technology. Choosing and maintaining an e-learning system for a company falls heavily on the shoulders of the learning and development team. It demands a lot of skills and competencies as e-learning covers wide areas – from research, content or curriculum development, designers, learning specialists to online trainers.
